Grateful for our Big God Family

We are blessed by all of you.

All of you who have congratulated us.
All of you who have encouraged us.
All of you who have donated to help bring our son home.

We are so thankful.

Some of you have heard this story, so feel free to scroll down...

Our first night in Furcy, Haiti last April,
they had made this huge meal.

There was rice and beans, and some kind of amazing slow cooked meat.
(Nor sure what kind of meat - I don't ask!)

But there we were all with or plates ready to eat dinner
and the heavens opened up and it rained.

Actually, it poured.

And as our mission team ate, almost on each other's laps,
under the awning of the guest house,
I caught something moving with the corner of my eye.

It was a child. Maybe 3? Maybe 4?
Or so I thought.

And in his eyes, I saw one thing -
HUNGER.

Have you ever seen hunger on the face of a child?
Not the kind of hunger where you missed a meal.
Not even the kind of hunger when you haven't eaten for a day.
Hunger like you haven't eaten - or at least eaten well - for weeks.

He was hungry.

And so I asked if we could feed him.

I didn't know that I was asking was breaking the order of things.
(Guests eat. Pastors eat. Men eat. The people who cooked eat.
Then their families eat. Then anyone else.)

I didn't realize that it was a big deal.

But bless these women - they knew he was hungry and they indulged
this pastor, and fed him a bowl. Not a little bowl. A heaping bowl.
Of rice. Of beans. Of meat.

And as we pulled him to the table,
between Terry and me,
we watched as he savored every grain of rice.
as he enjoyed every bean,
as he saved the pieces of meat for last.

As he ate - not knowing when he might eat again.

His name is Kevins.
He wasn't three or four.
He was eight.

And for Kevins - hunger was a daily struggle.

Children like Kevins need a family, they deserve a home.

God talks about how we are all one in Christ.
Our Bible tells us we are all children of God.

And for our family, that means opening up our doors to a child in Haiti.
For our family, we believe, that means giving a child the gift of life God gives us.
Clean water. Food. Medical Care.

But most importantly - LOVE.

This week, our goal is $500 of our $10,000 goal.
It would be a huge step in our fundraising
and help us get to the next step of the process...
Would you be willing to help bring our son home?

  1. I'm so touched by your calling to adopt. My cousin adopted two boys from Haiti a few years ago. Steve and Stevens, have quickly fit perfectly into our extended family. I can't wait to hear more about your journey and eventually meet your son! xo
