Making it All Add Up

International Adoption from Haiti costs around $25,000.

We have to pay for a home study. We are using the Board of Childcare, a Methodist ministry out of Baltimore and have found them to be amazing and affordable. We highly recommend them!

Some of that money goes to our agency, to pay for the work they do on our behalf.
(Honestly, our agency takes a far smaller fee than some others!)

The international child fee is set by each country. For Haiti, that is $12,000 per child.
Some of this money goes to the Haitian government, for their work - filing papers, making sure our child's creche (orphanage) is taking care of him, court costs, etc.
A large chunk goes to the creche to cover the lifetime costs of our child
(and help keep the creche up and running).
We see this as the most transformational money we are spending.
This feeds children, clothes children, cares for children.
THIS MONEY MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

We also pay for a Haitian Visa, medical testing, and a charge at the Consulate.

And then we pay the US government for several things:
Immigration costs, Certification costs, Apostillation costs.

We also have to do a two week bonding trip.
There is the cost of travel to Haiti, transportation in Haiti, and lodging in Haiti.
We also do a 5 day trip later to go and get him for good.
We have to pay for travel, transportation, and lodging then too.

All of that - approximately - adds up to $25,000.

We have had some friends ask about how we are reaching the $25,000 need
for bringing our son home from Haiti.

First, we have rearranged our priories. We have cut our family spending,
Chris has started leading PE at our girls school so we get a discount in tuition,
and I am quilting like mad! We are trying to use our gifts to help bring our son home!

Some people have gotten special orders.

There is a US tax credit we can receive for some of this money,
but not till the adoption is finalized, which might take 2 years.

The MOST amazing part has been your generosity!!

We have had so many friends donate outright to our adoption.
Checks have been sent directly to our agency, EACI,
and donations have been made through Pure Charity!
THANK YOU!

The #bethegood shirts have helped us raise over $6,000!
Who would have thought!

You have been so generous - buying shirts, sharing with your friends so they buy shirts,
donating more than the cost of the shirts.
We are humbled!
THANK YOU!

Between CustomInk's generosity and Bonfire,
we are thankful for two companies who are helping us bring our son home!

We have been blessed by friends who have given us their commission -
Veronica, with Mary and Martha and Terry with Lifetime Memories!
THANK YOU!

We are thankful, everyday for our Big God family who stands with us,
and is helping to bring our son home!
