A moment of Stillness

All four of us snuggled up in the bed- a rare occurrence for us to be still in this season of movement.

Giggling, snuggling, cherishing these moments.

And B says, "Why can't our Haiti brother be here?"

E: I am so ready for him, Momma. We could fit him in here too....

Me: I know baby, but right now we are waiting. That is what God is calling us to...wait.

And I know it is true.

Both Chris Bishop and I are preaching tomorrow on obedience that comes from joy and thankfulness not out of fear. And we both know this kind of obedience is something we are just beginning to learn.

So snuggled up with Chris - my precious girls sandwiched between us- I am claiming the joy... this joy here and now and the joy I know is coming when one more joins us in the bed.

To God be the Glory.

The Long Winding Road

Today, the girls and I were heading out to camp on a long winding road. We began the conversation about our Haiti Baby. "Mom," Eden (9) asked, "Will our Haiti baby have a mom and dad in Haiti?" "Maybe," I reply. And the conversation began - again - about the realities of orphans in third world countries. "Maybe his mom and dad died," Bethany - who is 5, replied. "Maybe," I muster. "Or maybe his mom and dad don't have enough food and water to take care of him," Eden finishes. Leaving the small town we live in, we have to eventually turn onto a narrow road, barely enough space for two lanes. Our conversation shifts. To thoughts about how we are called to do the work of justice and of mercy. Of not just opening our hearts and homes to orphans, but also the call to the hard work of orphan prevention.
